When Pandavs were in Vanvaas, they had build this mandir in just one night in a huge single mass of stone. The temple is considered one of the oldest temples built in the middle of the eleventh century that there is no such temple anywhere else in the world.
The architecture of Ambreshwar temple is a mix of north indian and south indian style. A large number of the sculptures has lost its details to the weathering but still they are beautiful. Although they are trying to keep the original through repairing as and when required. It is build by Shilahara king Chhittaraja. It’s Garbhagruha is below ground, 20 steps down to reach from Mandap, and is open to sky as shikhar tower above stops abruptly at a little above the height of the mandapa. Ambarnath which means the Sky. Amber in sanskrit is sky. So the shikhar here is sky and thus the tower might have not stopped abruptly.
