Harihareshwar

Harihareshwar temple is entirely dedicated to Lord Shiva & is regarded as one of the holiest shiva temple in Maharashtra. The Savitri river which starts from Mahabaleshwar emrged in Arabi Samudra from this spot. It is believed that the blessings of Shiva are so strong that it helps you become stronger in every aspects of life.  It is also known as ‘Kashi of the South’ for the ancient temple of Lord Shiva. The temple hosts the idols of Lord Shiva and Kalbhairav. Besides the main temple, there are Kalbhairav temple and Yogeshwari Devi temple. It is custome to take darshan of Kalbhairav first, then Lord Shiva and again then Kalbhairav. Then only ones darshan process get completed. It is Jagrut Deovsthan; our wishes get fulfilled here. Harihareshwar is ancestral diety of Maratha Emperor Peshave. In 1723, Bajirao Peshave renovated this temple, because before this temple was destroyed in fire. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had also visited here.

This temple at Harihareshwar is an awesome place on the sea shore. There are 2 temples in the complex and both show the glimpses of ancient Maratha Architecture. Many people perform various religious rights in the temple compound & the best part is that no one is harrassed by the local Pujaris or Pandas. There is a small hill on the back of the temple which needs to be trekked using steps. The view of the sea and surrounding rocks from the hill is also simply stunning & amazing.  While doing Pradakshina seawater touch our feet without which we can’t complete our Pradakshina of Harihareshwar.  At time of Mahashivaratri, temple is fully crowded with devotees.  There again is a stairway from the hill to the sea side which takes you to a,  picturesque rocky portion on the sea shore. Harihareshwar temple is certainly a place which is a heaven for resting on the rocks for a couple of hours. Besides reputed temple, Harihareshwar is famous beach resort on the list of MTDC .

How to reach here :

From Mumbai via Pen -Panvel it is easy to reach by road. If one wants to go by railway then Mangaon is nearer railway station for Harihareshwar Temple. From Mangaon it is 60-65 km. away. There are daily private buses  and also ST. buses available for Harihareshwar from Mumbai and Pune. Going with own vehicle is quite better option.
