Sant Gajanan Maharaj Shegaon

Sant Gajanan Maharaj temple has acquired a lot of fame and popularity because Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj himself stayed at this place. Shri Gajanan Maharaj is Hindu Guru, Saint, mystic person. Majority of Hindus respected Gajanan Maharaj a lot and considered him to be blessed with miraculous powers though the origins of Maharaj still remains untraceable in history. This is also the same place where Gajanan Maharaj took his Samadhi and hence the temple was built on the Samadhi of shri Gajanan Maharaj. Gajanan Maharaj took Sanjivan Samadhi on 8 Sept. 1910. On this day of samadhi , temple celebrates Punyatithi Utsav and the day when Maharaj appeared in Shegaon (23 Feb. 1878) is celebrated as Prakat Din.

Located at Shegaon town of the Buldhana distict in Maharashtra, this temple attracts a large number of visitors from all over the Maharashtra. The trust of this temple Sant Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan is the biggest temple trust in the Vidarbha region and they are responsible for various colleges, hospitals and other philanthropic activities in the region. Today, Gajanan Maharaj Temples are everywhere in India apart from this Shegaon Temple. Such as Various parts in Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Omkareshwar, Belgaon, Mudgaon, Khamgaon, Vapi in Gujrath, Malkapur etc. and performing well everywhere. There is also Bhaktaniwas (facility of stay for devotees) along with Gajanan Maharaj temple.

Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan was formed on 12 September 1908 , the holy day when first time Gajanan Maharaj seen by one person in Shegaon. The trust was likely established to oversee and manage the affairs of the temple and other associated activities in his memory. The Shri Gajanan Maharaj Mandir is located below the temple of Shri Ram. In the same area, there is a place where the Dhooni (sacred fire) is burning. Nearby, there is Maharaj’s paduka, made in sandlewood, which are considered sacred and symbolize his presence even after his passing. There are other temples also like Vithoba-Rukmini, and Hanuman. There is an ancient Umbar tree near the temple  of Hanuman, which is believed to have been in existence since the days of Shri Gajanan Maharaj.

Gajanan Maharaj Temple celebrates various festivals , prominants among them are Prakat Din, Ram Janmotsav, Magh Vadya Pratipada to Saptami, Punyatithi Utsav.

One of the attraction of people with temple is Anand Sagar , area maintained by Temple trust is vary good garden having snack corner and musical fountain. It’s timing is 9 am. to 5 pm.

How to reach here:

Shegaon is class I station on way of Mumbai – Nagpur Vidarbh Express. Which starts from Mumbai at evening and reaches next day till early morning 6.00 am. From Sheagaon railway station there are buses of temple which provide free service to Gajanan Maharaj Temple Lodge. Or auto are available also.
