Yawal Wildlife Sanctuary
Situated in the Yawal tehsil in the Jalgaon district of Maharashtra, Yawal Wildlife Sanctuary is spread across 178.52 sq.kms and the nearest railway station is the Raver railway station at a distance of 25kms. Yawal wildlife sanctuary is situated along the banks of the Manjal and Anner rivers that flows towards the adjacent border of Madhya Pradesh.
The sanctuary boasts of landscapes which has uncomparable beauty while it also houses more than 290 species of different birds while over 250 species of different trees. Flying squirrel(one of the rarest in India), Leopards, Tigers, Sloth Bear, Deers, Sambars, Wolves, Blue Bull, Chinkara and Wild Dogs can often be spotted at this place. Yawal is famous for Bengal Tigers. While there are also over 85 species of different butterflies roaming in company of flying squirrels which is the attraction point of Yawal Sanctuary.
Mangrove forest zones, Yawal Sanctuary consist mainly of dry deciduous trees, with Arjun and Salai trees spread all over. Intermittent shrubs like Nirgudi and Khair are spread in between these large trees. Lying on the western side of the Satpura Range, Yawal Sanctuary at Jalgaon in Maharashtra is a wonderful tourist destination where you can visit with friends and family during a vacation.
Blue tiger Butterflies can be seen in Nirgudi Plants, while water frogs are plentiful inside water. A minor Irrigation project is supposed to be launched soon because the Government has already decided on this project. The population of fauna consists mainly of flying squirrel, pangolin, ratel, tiger, leopard, sambar, barking deer, chital, mouse deer, and wild dogs. Threatened by poachers, this region was declared as a Sanctuary by Maharashtra Government.
Best Time to Visit: February to May. The atmosphere is always chill here.
The Government rest house provides facilities for lodging and boarding.
